What awards were you most proud to receive?

The many awards the firm has received for our design of Apple flagship store in SoHo. Personally, the Edward C. Kemper Award from AIA New York for the contributions I have made to the profession through my work with AIA and, most recently, I was honored as one of the Power Women of the East End (of Long Island).

What leadership role outside of the workplace is most rewarding to you?

Over 30 years of involvement, currently as president, with East Hampton Artists & Writers Charity Softball Game, which raises money for life services organizations on the East End. President Clinton was one of our umpires at this year’s game.

What was the most difficult experience you have encountered as a leader?

Surviving multiple economic downturns without laying off any employees.

What aspect of your position do you find most challenging?

Managing people. Architects should study psychology as managing the human behavior is a daily challenge.
