Name and Title: Vincent Grieco, NY Metro Regional Sales Manager

Company Name: Crystal Window & Door Systems

What was your most notable project, deal, transaction or professional achievement in 2016?

One of Crystal Windows’ most notable projects this past year was the completion of the massive Pomonok Houses project in Queens. This effort, recently recognized by the Queens Chamber of Commerce with a special award, involved the replacement of almost 11,000 windows. The project was especially notable not just by its size but also because it meant bringing new windows with improved views, functionality, energy efficiency and sound redirection to the residents of a much maligned NYCHA facility. Improving the lives of other people is a very rewarding experience for everyone at Crystal.

What project, transaction, market trend or product had the greatest impact on your industry this year?

A new trend we are seeing in New York City fenestration is the desire on the part of architects to use the exterior frames of windows to create greater aesthetic interest and appeal for new construction projects.  Rather than alter the building window opening, at lower costs they are creating new intriguing “shadow box” looks by adding exterior frame accessories to the new windows.  Using its 3-D printing design capabilities and aluminum extrusion subsidiary company’s production, Crystal’s in-house engineering staff is working with innovative architects to create custom window frame accessory components of varying depth and colors for new buildings.

How will you be supercharging your productivity in 2017?

Definitely the factor that will be driving Crystal Window’s success this coming year will be our new 336,000 sq. ft. factory in Scranton, PA.  As it ramps up production, this facility is adding an enormous amount of manufacturing capacity to our operations.  The new factory will directly supplement and integrate with our existing 215,000 sq. ft. factory in Queens.  The result for New York area building owners, contractors, window installers and other trade customers will be much faster order turnaround times, greater flexibility regarding custom orders and even more competitive prices.

What emerging trends will drive investment and development in 2017?

I believe much of New York’s new real estate investment and development for 2017 will be driven by the City’s continuing need to create more affordable housing for the growing population.  Crystal Windows has been a major supplier to this market in the past and we foresee an even greater role in 2017 and beyond.
