12-04-2014: Spinola, Santora and Lane to be honored at Outreach 33rd Annual Luncheon at Cipriani 42nd Street

Outreach, New York's leading nonprofit provider of life-changing drug and alcohol abuse treatment, will honor three prominent business and labor leaders at the organization's 33rd Annual Metropolitan Luncheon on Thursday, December 4. The event begins at 11:45 a.m. at Cipriani 42nd Street. Steven Spinola, president of the Real Estate Board of New York, Inc., will be this year's recipient of the Man of the Year Award. John Santora, president and CEO of Corporate Occupier and Investor Services for Cushman & Wakefield, will receive the Jim Berg Memorial Award, named for the late James F. Berg, longtime president of New York City's Realty Advisory Board on Labor Relations, and an Outreach board member. Also honored will be Thomas Lane, president of Tile, Marble and Terrazzo BAC Local Union No. 7 of New York and New Jersey. Lane is being honored as Labor Leader of the Year. Spinola is the longest-serving president of the Real Estate Board of New York, having joined the trade association in 1986. Crain's New York Business has included him in its list of the 100 Most Influential New Yorkers, and he has been cited by the New York Observer/Commercial Observer as one of the top 50 most powerful people in real estate. He was appointed by governor Andrew Cuomo to the New York City Regional Council. A 37-year veteran of Cushman & Wakefield, Santora has held numerous positions at the firm. He currently oversees the company's largest global business unit. In addition to being an ardent Outreach supporter, he is involved in numerous other organizations, including the United Way, the Boy Scouts, Covenant House and the Diabetes Research Institute. Thomas Lane has been president of Local 7 since 2007. He also serves as vice president of Tile on the International Executive Board, and financial secretary treasurer of the New York City Building Trades. He has been a union tile setter for more than 30 years. Soon after becoming president of Local 7, Lane created a member assistance program for children of union members with substance abuse problems. "Our honorees have made outstanding contributions in the real estate, financial and labor sectors of New York," said Kathleen Riddle, president of Outreach. "Now they have stepped up and said 'Yes' to helping the people of metro New York who desperately need help with substance abuse. In the face of the tidal wave of drugs that is overwhelming our area, their time and resources are helping bring awareness to our cause of healing those afflicted by this epidemic. We are grateful for their support." Outreach is a premier provider and champion of quality, life-changing drug and alcohol abuse care. Since 1980, Outreach has provided the New York Metropolitan area with unmatched substance abuse treatment and training services, specializing in residential and outpatient programs for teens, intensive daytime treatment for women and women with children, adult outpatient treatment services, and training of professionals for careers in treating addiction. On an annual basis, Outreach offers care and treatment to nearly 3,000 individuals and families; upwards of 350 students participate in training activities.
