10-09-2013 - Janis to speak at PWC's at Continuing Ed event at 49 W. 23rd Street

On October 9th from 6 - 8 p.m., Professional Women in Construction (PWC) will open its 2013-14 series of Continuing Ed programs with "Use of Stock Components for Architectural Metalwork," presented by Julius Blum & Co., Inc., at DuPont Corian Design Studio, 49 W. 23rd St., 3rd floor. The course will feature David Janis, CSI, the brother of PWC president Lenore Janis, as the guest speaker. It will offer an informative talk about the breadth and depth of the stock component industry for architectural metalwork, noting that while the use of railings and handrails for stairway, balconies, and other walkways is a given, there are choices in the marketplace for fabrication, finish, and installation. Topics to be covered include: industry background and history; material selection for aluminum, bronze, steel, stainless steel & nickel-silver; codes: past and present; systems and fabrication: assembly, finishing and installation; design liability. Participants will receive 1 LU-HSW, AIA CEU credit. Wine & hors d'oeuvres will be served. The course is free for PWC members; $10 for non-members.
