The leading ladies of real estate journalism will offer their views on the industry as they relate to their own trade as the New York Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women's Network celebrates Women's History Month with the Industry Spotlight event, "Women in Real Estate Media: The Real Scoop." The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20th, at the offices of Ted Moudis Associates, 79 Madison Ave.
Constance Mitchell-Ford, head of the global real estate and property bureau for The Wall Street Journal, will moderate a roundtable of real estate journalists discussing industry trends and the changing role of the media in business. Also scheduled to participate are: Sule Aygoren Carranza, editor of Real Estate Forum; Linda O'Flanagan, editor of Real Estate Weekly; Amanda Metcalf, New York reporter for Bisnow.com; and Lois Weiss, the author of the "Between the Bricks" column in the New York Post.
"We are so excited to celebrate the fact that not only have women made great strides in the commercial real estate business, but also in journalism," says Shari Linnick, 2013 NYCREW president and a VP at Trepp LLC. "These women, and their colleagues, provide information that is critical to our business and bring attention and visibility to our accomplishments. This is a perfect way to honor Women's History Month."
"Journalists often have distinct points of view on the businesses they cover, yet rarely have a chance to offer their own perspectives," said Faith Hope Consolo, NYCREW's director of communications and chairman of Douglas Elliman's Retail Group.
"Reporters and editors have access to some of the great minds and leaders in our industry, which gives them a broad overview of trends," Consolo said. "This is a unique opportunity to hear more about our business, as well as the challenges they have faced as women covering what had been for many years a very male-dominated field."
Equally important is the diversity of media represented on the panel, observes Karen Dome, a member of NYCREW's board of directors, CREW delegate, and a senior associate at
Marcus & Millichap.
"This panel includes leaders from newspapers, magazines and the Internet," Dome said. "I'm looking forward to hearing not just what they see as the important stories in real estate going forward, but also how their roles and careers are changing in this increasingly interconnected world. We may be saluting history, but we're all looking to the future."
This session is the second of a number of instructive and relationship-building networking events NYCREW has planned throughout the year. The advance registration rate for the event, valid through 5 p.m. eastern standard time on March 19, is as follows: $75 for NYCREW members; $90 for CREW chapter members; $110 for non-cREW members; $30 for students.
