Village of Greenport, Long Island emerging as expanding retail and hospitality hub

Greenport, NY The Village of Greenport, located on the North Fork of Long Island, is reemerging as a hub for entrepreneurs, artists, retailers and hospitality ventures. “Greenport possesses a level of authenticity, character and community identity that is increasingly rare today. Greenport has managed to retain and preserve its historic maritime and working waterfront identity and small-town charm while attracting thoughtful entrepreneurial business and hospitality interest,” said Kent Swig, president of Helmsley Spear, a renowned real estate firm recently hired by the Greenport Business Improvement District (BID) to spur retail leasing and business investment.

Greenport offers many advantages including:

Strategic Location: Located on a waterfront, the Village is accessible by ferry, rail and car, easily connecting to both Long Island and New England destinations and markets. The Village has one of the largest public marinas and working waterfronts on the East End of Long Island.

Supportive Business Community: Greenport BID is taking a proactive stance to attract business with financial incentives, advisory services and marketing expertise. In addition, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport is the only comprehensive health care facility on North Fork.

High Pedestrian Traffic: Seasonal tourism has been expanding, in addition to a growing year-round population with consistent demand for authentic goods, services and dining experiences. Tens of thousands of tourists visit the nearby world-renowned vineyards, creating opportunities for new business development.

Distinct Identity: The charm of the village and historic character are appealing to both residents and new customers who find Greenport a destination for day trips and longer-term vacation stays.

“What continues to distinguish Greenport is the authentic character of the Village itself, and the strength of the business community. Our focus remains on thoughtful stewardship of the unique Village identity while supporting authentic businesses, enhancing visitor experience and maintaining long term vitality for the community,” said Richard Vandenburgh, president, Greenport BID.

Through the initiative of Helmsley Spears’s Long Island Office, the team will lead the charge to introduce business owners and investors to Greenport Village as a prime location for economic opportunities that will serve the local community’s economic growth and expand on Village of Greenport.
