United Group celebrates grand opening
of 222-unit The Apex at Crossgates

Guilderland, NY The United Group of Companies, Inc. (United Group) was joined by city officials, development partners, chamber members, and staff Wednesday to celebrate the official grand opening of The Apex at Crossgates, Guilderland’s award-winning multifamily housing community near Crossgates Mall. The Apex at Crossgates represents a new market-rate housing option for capital region residents seeking class A housing options.

Representatives from United Group, city and state officials including New York State senator Patricia Fahy, deputy county executive Michael McLaughlin, and town board member Gustavo Santos, as well as business community representatives from the Guilderland and Capital Region Chambers of Commerce were all in attendance for the day’s festivities.

“This is a tremendous investment,” Fahy said. “Thank you for helping to grow our housing pie. It is the only way to grow out of the crisis which we face nationally.”

The event allowed county residents and community stakeholders to tour the 222-unit community. The Apex at Crossgates features one-, two-, and three-bedroom housing options in the form of 192 garden apartments and 30 townhome units and is also surrounded by greenery and walking spaces paired with a 9,000 s/f clubhouse featuring amenities such as a golf simulator, a fitness center, a game lounge with a pool table, card table, and gaming stations, a club room with a fireplace, television and kitchen, a yoga studio and a plethora of outdoor amenities including a dog park, pickle ball courts, and a swimming pool area that includes a pool house, hot tub, and outdoor grilling stations.

“This is a fantastic example of the type of development and housing we need to lean into. A new paradigm, if you will, of construction,” deputy county executive Michael McLaughlin said. “So, this is the type of development we want to see more of. And I am happy, as a county representative, for this type of development to happen anywhere in our county and certainly hope this can continue in other areas of our county as well.”

The Apex at Crossgates will provide residents with access to I87, I90, Stuyvesant Plaza, the Crossgates Mall, CDTA transportation, SUNY Albany, Albany NanoTech, Albany Med, St. Peters, downtown Albany, the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, Colonie Center, Guilderland schools and town resourcese.

“I personally wanted to see multiple generations living here,” United Group president and CEO Michael Uccellini said. “And we have that today. People that are coming into the area, from all over the country, are choosing us to live and we are proud of that. This project has come together just the way we envisioned it.”

The groundbreaking ceremony was highlighted by speeches from Uccellini, Fahy, McLaughlin, and United Group’s chief development officer Jeff Smetana.
