Touro Law honors Certilman Balin: Law Firm of the Year

East Meadow, NY At the With Liberty & Justice for All Dinner on June 15th, Touro Law Center honored Certilman Balin as the Law Firm of the Year.

The following Certilman Balin attorneys are Touro Law alumni: Daniel Baker, partner ’92; James Rose, partner ’96; Michelle Schmitt, partner ’07; Jennifer Bentley, of counsel ’04; Elke Stoiber, of counsel ’02; Christopher Nicolia, associate ’11; Samantha Sharma, associate ’15; Desiree Gargano, associate ’13; Jennifer Ng, associate ’13; and James Tsimis, associate ’12.

Howard Stein, partner-in-charge of the real estate practice group at Certilman Balin, serves as chairman of the board of governors at Touro. He is also an adjunct law professor.

Baker and Schmitt, both real estate partners, remain actively involved with the Law Center’s Alumni Association. Mr. Baker is a member of the Touro Law Center Dean’s Advisory Council, and an Advisory Board Member to Touro Law Center’s Institute of Land Use and Sustainable Development Law. In 2009, Ms. Schmitt was featured as the “Alum of the Month;” in 2012 she was awarded a Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award; and in 2013 she was presented with Touro’s Emerging Leader Award. James Rose, Litigation Partner, and Elke Stoiber, Counsel to the Commercial Lending Group, have also been honored with the Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award.

The dinner is held annually to raise funds to support Touro Law Center programs and student scholarships.

When Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) were first part of commercial real estate risk management, it was the lenders driving this requirement. When a borrower wanted a loan on a property, banks would utilize a list of “Approved Consultants” to order the report on both refinances and purchases.
