According to WX New York Women Executives in Real Estate (WX), Mary Ann Tighe, CEO of CBRE's New York Tri-State Region, spoke at a breakfast on October 9 at the Harvard Club in New York City.
WX association members gathered to hear Tighe, a leader in New York real estate, discuss the East Midtown Rezoning, a comprehensive zoning plan that aims to rejuvenate the iconic Midtown East area while strengthening its position in an increasingly competitive global economy. Tighe's presentation focused on the importance of developing state-of-the-art buildings in Midtown East to attract new businesses and world-class talent.
Revitalizing the Historic Business District
Midtown East, a 73-block area surrounding Grand Central Terminal, is a major job generator for New York City and home to some of the world's premier corporations and beloved landmarks. However, as Tighe noted, Midtown East lacks the modern building stock that it needs to maximize its potential as a thriving business center. While Midtown East has traditionally been one of the most coveted office markets in the New York region, many of its office buildings are currently outdated. Tighe highlighted the necessity of upgrading Midtown East office buildings to meet modern building standards and satisfy the needs of corporate clients.
Tighe became CEO of CBRE's New York Tri-State Region in 2002, and her leadership has driven CBRE to outdistance all competitors in market share, revenue and margins. She is a seven-time winner of the Real Estate Board of New York's Deal of the Year award for ingenious brokerage, a recipient of the Louis Smadbeck Memorial Broker Recognition Award and REBNY's Bernard H. Mendik Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also the first woman to receive the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate's Urban Leadership Award. Tighe has been responsible for over 84 million s/f of commercial transactions and her deals have anchored more than 10.9 million s/f of new construction in the New York Region.
