Suffolk IDA approves investment for Good Meats, LLC/Casanova Market to purchase/renovate 50,000 s/f

January 14, 2025 - Long Island

Hauppauge, NY The Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) has approved a transaction that will allow Good Meats, LLC/Casanova Market Inc. to invest in the purchase and renovation of a 50,000 s/f existing building on 4.6 acres and an adjacent 0.795-acre flag-lot property located at 430 Wireless Blvd. With an investment of more than $20.5 million into the community, the development of this project is expected to retain 82 full-time jobs and create 22 additional jobs with an initial payroll of more than $6.4 million.

Casanova Market Inc. is a USDA-certified wholesaler specializing in certified meat, beef, poultry, fish, pork, and grocery products. The company originated 75 years ago as a small retail store in Freeport, NY, committed to offering top-quality meats to local families. With increasing demand, they relocated to Copiague, New York, and shifted from retail to wholesale distribution.

Their main clients include local small businesses such as bodegas, delis, small grocery stores, and restaurants.

“Casanova Market Inc. is a company founded on Long Island, which has evolved from a small retail store on the south shore to a recognized wholesale distribution company throughout New York State,” said Kelly Murphy, executive director/CEO of the Suffolk County IDA. “The company services hundreds of businesses throughout the region, offering high-quality products at competitive prices that elevates the businesses of their customers. The IDA is delighted to offer assistance and support Casanova Market Inc. in their continued expansion, right here on Long Island where it all began.”

The company is set to relocate its operations from a 16,000 s/f facility in West Babylon to the new 50,000 s/f facility in Hauppauge. With growing demand surpassing the current capacity, substantial expansion space is needed to accommodate their products. A part of their facility will be used to divide large cuts of meat into smaller packages for distribution to various stores. The company also supplies its high-quality meats to more than 700 restaurants in the Caribbean and Spanish ethnic communities.

“We are thankful for our partnership with the Suffolk County IDA,” said Joel Brodman, president of Casanova Market Inc. “Without their support, our locally-grown Long Island business would have faced relocation. At Casanova Markets Inc., our commitment is to offer top-quality products at affordable prices, and thanks to the IDA’s backing, we can uphold that promise.”

The company presently has 82 full-time employees, with 24 drivers at their current facility in West Babylon. Once the project is complete, the company is committed to generating 22 new full-time positions, leading to an annual payroll exceeding 6.4 million. Casanova Market Inc. had considered relocating to a neighboring state near the turnpike to cut costs and enhance their cold storage capacity. Without assistance from the Suffolk IDA, this move could have put many jobs in the area at risk. The company is dedicated to aligning with The Agency’s Long Island first policy, which means prioritizing the use of local Long Island vendors or contractors whenever possible.
