Developer Whitetop Mountain Professional Properties and general contractor Stalco Construction have broken ground on the new $5 million, 15,100 s/f 226 Middle Country Rd. Medical and Research Building in the village of The Branch. The building will house two tenants, North Shore-LIJ Health System diagnostic imaging center and the headquarters and product research and development facilities of MIDI, a medical, life sciences and home healthcare-product development consulting firm.

Alan Nahmias, president of Stalco, said, "The architecture of the new one-story building will reflect the colonial feel of the historic village of The Branch neighborhood, which dates back to the late 1600s. The building's façade will feature brick face, columns, and other ornamental architectural elements prevalent in the landmark structures neighboring the new development."
The structure will house medical services and research & development facilities. The foundation will feature reinforced-concrete footing and foundation walls. The building will have a steel structural system and six-inch metal frame exterior walls with brick veneer as well as colonial-looking Fypon PVC trim to reflect the heritage of the neighborhood. The façade will also showcase masonry elements, columns, two separate Kawneer architectural aluminum and glass entrances, and split-faced block as well as EIFS (exterior insulation and finishing system) in certain areas. The roof will feature ornamental fencing and railing by Fypon.
Stalco project manager, John Furey, said, "The project will include new landscaping and a new surface parking lot for employees and visitors, new curbs, new exterior lighting, and a connection easement road to provide courtesy access for a church located adjacent to the property." Additional site work will include a new keystone retaining wall on the southeast corner of the property.
Construction superintendent Michael Marchese said, "The team will install new utility connections - power, water, and telecommunications. The property will feature its own septic and sewer system, and crews will install an irrigation system for lawns, shrubs, and trees planted at the site."
In addition to general contractor Stalco Construction, the project team includes architect nf architectural designs, structural engineer Design Bureau of Leonid Krupnik; civil engineer RMS Engineering; and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineer Mottola Rini Engineers.
The North Shore-LIJ Health System diagnostic imaging center will be a 10,000 s/f facility that will feature state-of-the art radiology and diagnostics equipment and modern, convenient interiors. North Shore-LIJ Imaging Centers are the only ACR-designated Centers of Diagnostic Excellence on Long Island and offer access to the largest group of fellowship-trained, sub-specialized radiologists in Suffolk County.
MIDI is an award-winning, FDA- and ISO-compliant, strategic, turn-key product development consulting firm with over 40 years' experience servicing domestic and international clientele representing the medical, life sciences, and home healthcare markets. Its Fortune 500 clients include GE Healthcare, Siemens, and Johnson & Johnson. MIDI has generated over 500 patents for its clientele with more than $500 million in equity through device revenue and intellectual property.
The firm's headquarters will feature an open-space layout, particularly in the design studio section, to promote innovative thinking. It will also house the company's engineering and design lab, which uses a computer-controlled rapid prototyping development process that includes 3D printing. MIDI provides laboratory testing of all prototypes to prepare for clinical trials. The space will house MIDI's mechanical and electrical engineers, software programmers, industrial designers, ergonomics and product design specialists, marketing specialists, and experts in VOC analysis (Voice of the Customer) that support concept and product development.
