Sorrenti of JRS Architect elected as bursar of AIA COF Executive Committee

During the National American Institute of Architects (AIA) Convention held this May, John Sorrenti, FAIA of L.I., was elected by acclamation to serve as bursar on the 2013-2014 College of Fellows (COF) Executive Committee. Sorrenti is founder and president of JRS Architect, P.C. one of the nation's top architectural design firms. As bursar, Sorrenti assumes responsibility for all the financial affairs of the college. This marks the first time since the college's founding in 1952 that a bursar has been elected from L.I. The last time a candidate was chosen for this office from NYS was in 1995. The AIA is comprised of over 85,000 members and bestowing the recognition of Fellowship is an honor reserved for those members who have made significant contributions to the architectural profession. There are only 2,700 members in this select group. To be elected Bursar to the College is a rare and singular honor. Sorrenti will serve as Bursar for two years, be elevated to vice chancellor in 2015, then finally to chancellor in 2016. He will be the 55th chancellor of the college since its inception. The Fellows of the American Institute of Architecture (FAIA) is today international in its outreach and when Sorrenti assumes the mantle of Chancellor he will lead the College's mission of mentorship, promoting the profession of architecture and community and enhancing the profession on a global scale. "I am indeed humbled by the trust the College has bestowed on me for the coming years, and will work hard to accomplish my goals for carrying out the Mission of the Fellows," said Sorrenti. About John Sorrenti, FAIA Throughout the course of his career John Sorrenti has contributed generously of his time and expertise to further the enhancement of the architectural profession. Some of his roles have included President of the NY State AIA and Vice President of the National AIA. Currently John serves as National Chair of the AIA College of Fellows Regional Representatives. Appointed Chair of the NY State Education Board of Architecture he is also Director on the National Board for NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards). John has also served on the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) committee for college accreditation programs; has performed reviews of his peers for the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and is a Commissioner on the Town of North Hempstead's Historic Landmarks Preservation Commission. In 2008, John received a Lifetime Achievement Award from AIA Long Island Chapter.
