Skurnik named managing director of CapitalSource in New York

New York, NY According to CapitalSource, a division of Pacific Western Bank and a nationally recognized commercial lender to small and mid-sized businesses, Brian Skurnik has taken over the CapitalSource Real Estate Lending Group as managing director based in New York. He will be responsible for overseeing a skilled team of lending professionals, while driving deal growth for non-West Coast bridge loans that run the full spectrum of property types and sizes. Tom Whitesell will continue to run CapitalSource’s Real Estate Construction Lending Group, which will also do West Coast based bridge loans. Skurnik brings over 25 years of lending experience to his role, and has been affiliated with CapitalSource since 2006. He is responsible for many facets of CapitalSource’s national real estate lending efforts. In his expanded role, Skurnik will directly manage the banking teams that originate, underwrite and close real estate loans to ensure overall consistency in sourcing, structuring, and pricing new business, as well as compliance with underwriting and credit guidelines. Brian has extensive experience in the real estate debt, mezzanine and equity markets as well as securitizations. Prior to joining CapitalSource, Skurnik worked at Barclays Capital in loan originations, and also played a key role as one of the early members of the real estate group in building the lending platform.  Prior to Barclays, he held positions at Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers where he was primarily responsible for originating and underwriting commercial real estate loans with a capital markets orientation. Skurnik also spent 7 years at Heller Financial where he initially worked as a lending officer in the asset-based lending group and then transferred into the real estate division, which focused on providing value-add bridge loans. “Brian’s ample years of experience in the real estate industry, coupled with his knowledge of CapitalSource’s value proposition to the market give us every confidence that he has the tools he needs to bring our East Coast Real Estate team to new levels of success,” said Laird Boulden, EVP, chief lending officer. “He is a dedicated professional who consistently achieves stellar outcomes on behalf of his clients and our company.” He is a graduate of Brooklyn College receiving a degree in Business, Management & Finance, and is a member of several real estate organizations including ULI, ICSC, RELA, CrefC and MBA.
