LONG ISLAND CITY, NY Simone Development Companies celebrated the "topping off" of its two new Hunters Point condominium developments by holding a luncheon event at the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center.
The event included live jazz and tours of the current exhibitions at the contemporary art center, an affiliate of the Museum of Modern Art. In addition, Simone Development announced a $5,000 donation to the Annual Exhibition Fund of P.S. 1.
"A topping off ceremony, which marks the completion of a building's final floor, is traditionally held at the construction site. However, we decided to do something different today by celebrating our milestone at this magnificent world-class museum which is transforming the Hunters Point District into one of the most sought-after new residential neighborhoods in New York City," said Joseph Simone, president of Simone Development Companies. "P.S.1 is a big reason why the Hunters Point District has become such a popular residential neighborhood. We are proud to support the outstanding work that P.S. 1 does in fostering creativity and artistic expression as well as recognizing today's emerging artists."
Among the guests participating in the celebration were Joseph Conley, chairman of Queens Community Board 2; Dan Miner, senior vice president, Business Services for the Long Island City Business Development Corp; and Nancy Packes, president of Brown Harris Stevens Project Marketing of New York City.
Simone Development is constructing two 12-story luxury condominiums in the Hunters Point District of Long Island City. One of the buildings, known as One Hunters Point, is located on Borden Ave. near Vernon Blvd. It features 131 one, two and three-bedroom luxury residences, with most offering spectacular waterfront views of the Manhattan skyline. The second building, Hunters View, is located three blocks away on 49th Ave. and features 73 one and two-bedroom residences.
Packes said, "We are very pleased by the strong sales we've enjoyed so far at the Hunters Point condominium developments. The initial success of these developments is reflected in part by the growing popularity of the Hunters Point District. With its historic residential character, thriving arts community and close proximity to Midtown Manhattan, Hunters Point is well on its way to becoming the next SoHo or Tribeca. And the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center is the driving force behind this remarkable renaissance."
