Sidney B. Bowne & Son revitalizes Tully Park Physical Activity Center and Natatorium

Sidney B. Bowne & Son has rehabbed the Natatorium at Michael J. Tully Park Physical Activities Center. Whatever the season, Long Island municipalities are committed to providing first class recreational alternatives to their constituents. Recognizing the overwhelming health benefits of year-round swimming - improved heart health, weight control, stress reduction, flexibility and muscle tone, among others - the Town of North Hempstead embarked upon a program to repair and revitalize the Michael J. Tully Park Indoor Pool and Physical Activities Center in New Hyde Park with the help of Sidney B. Bowne & Son's architects and engineers. Bowne combined Tully's existing diving and lap pools into one large pool with six lanes for lap swimming and a shallow area with six water spray features and a water slide. Among the additional design enhancements provided by Bowne, were new boys, girls and family bathrooms and dressing rooms, all of which were ADA compliant. Bowne also designed a new party room and a new exercise room with a retractable partition to divide the room into two spaces. In addition the entire facility received new finishes and ceilings, with decorative hanging banners and colorful awnings. To improve user safety, an emergency service corridor was designed with direct access to the pool area for emergency personnel. Bowne's engineering services for the activity center included an electrical upgrade; new fire alarm and sprinkler systems; new dehumidification, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; and new plumbing and lighting. Sidney B. Bowne & Son offers a full range of architectural, survey and civil engineering services to municipalities and private clients in the NY metropolitan area. Whether restoring an existing facility or breaking ground on a new venture, Bowne surveyors, architects and engineers can be relied upon to bring experience, expertise and professionalism to your project. Client / Owner: Town of North Hempstead, Michael J. Tully Park.
