Rudin Management wins award from AEE

New York, NY The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), a nonprofit professional society that promotes the scientific and educational interest of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for sustainable development, has recognized Rudin Management Co. with its “Corporate Energy Management” award as part of its 2020 International Awards Program.

Rudin Management is one of 12 organizations that will be honored during AEE’s virtual award ceremony on Wednesday, October 14th. The award recognizes important work that is being done in the energy industry by individuals, organizations, agencies, and corporations.

“At Rudin, we are dedicated to improving energy efficiency and lowering carbon emissions throughout our portfolio, which not only benefits our tenants, but all New Yorkers as well,” said John Gilbert, COO at Rudin. “We are honored to be recognized by such a prestigious group representing the energy and engineering community.”

Representing one of the largest privately-owned portfolios of real estate in the city, Rudin has long considered energy-management to be an integral part of good building operations. By employing innovative strategies to track and manage energy consumption in their commercial portfolio, the company has dramatically reduced greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) emissions, enhanced tenant experience, and reduced energy-costs.

Rudin created a technology start-up called Prescriptive Data in 2016 and developed a fully-integrated smart building operating system known as Nantum OS. The system extracts and consolidates live data from building systems, external data providers, and from third-party Internet of Things (IoT) solutions into a secure cloud environment called the Nantum Cloud. Using this real-time data, Nantum OS employs machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to optimize real-time operational efficiency, enhance tenant comfort, reduce utilities costs and energy usage, improving building net-operating profits (NOI) thereby increasing the underlying value of real estate assets.

At the end of 2017, the 15 properties using Nantum together achieved a 48% reduction in GHG emissions compared to 2005 baseline, more than half of the 80% by year 2050 goal established under the New York City Carbon Challenge.

The AEE International Award is yet another in a series of industrywide recognitions for Rudin and the Prescriptive Data team. The firm has won multiple awards from the Real Estate Board of New York’s (REBNY) PropTech Hackathon, and in 2018, Gilbert received the Lifetime Achievement Award from leading real estate education organization Realcomm for his exceptional leadership in the field of real estate technology.
