Related Companies joins Habitat for Humanity to repair homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy
According to Related Companies, a team of over 40 volunteers joined Habitat for Humanity New York City to repair homes in Queens damaged by Superstorm Sandy. The volunteer team is made up of employees from Related Companies, Oxford Properties Group, Tishman Construction and Tutor Perini, who are all working on the development of Hudson Yards - the largest private development in the nation. According to Related, that in addition to this week's project, the company is making a long-term commitment to Habitat for Humanity and will volunteer each year to assist in the annual Carter Work Project Events.
"The Hudson Yards team is honored to join the more than 1,000 Habitat NYC volunteers in New York City who will be repairing homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy," said Ronald Wackrow the executive vice president for Related Companies overseeing the design and construction of Hudson Yards. "Since its founding Related has been committed to revitalizing communities and is proud to make a long-term commitment to support Habitat for Humanity and its critical mission. Like president and Mrs. Carter, we believe that everyone should have an opportunity to live in beautiful, affordable home and we remain committed to making that a reality."
For decades, both Related Companies and the Carters have worked to build affordable homes and raise awareness about the overall need for affordable housing nationwide. For more than 40 years, Related Affordable, a division of Related Companies, has been dedicated to developing, acquiring and preserving affordable housing with a commitment to never take an affordable apartment to market rent. To date, Related has developed or acquired 45,000 affordable and workforce units, offering tens-of-thousands of people around the country safe, affordable place to call home.

Since 1984, president and Mrs. Carter have worked to raise awareness about the critical need for affordable housing across the country and around the world, and this year marks the 30th annual Jimmy and Roselyn Carter Work Project to build and repair homes. In addition to the work being done here in New York City, the Habitat for Humanity's Carter Work Project will also have events in Oakland and San Jose, CA, Denver, CO, and Union Beach, N.J.
