LMCC's Arts Center, Governor's Island - Manhattan, NY

Manhattan, NY Reidy Contracting Group has completed the LMCC’s Arts Center, the first permanent home for artists and cultural audiences at Governors Island. Spanning 40,000 s/f, the center offers a range of amenities and spaces to meet artists and visitors’ needs, including studios, galleries, a performance space and the island’s first indoor café. Reidy assisted in the pro bono construction of the center as well as made a charitable donation towards the project.

LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island will be a welcoming hub for working artists and community engagement, hosting a wide range of free events, including open studios, performances, events and workshops to convene artists and the public in an ongoing exchange of ideas and creative practice.

“We are honored to assist LMCC in the creation of their first permanent home on Governors Island,” said Pat Reidy, president of Reidy. “I look forward to seeing the center provide the New York community with space for the creation and sharing of art for generations to come in an exciting, dynamic location.”

“We are excited to expand LMCC’s decades-long work to connect artists and communities while reflecting on the world we inhabit,” said Lili Chopra, LMCC’s executive director of artistic programs.

“The deep roots of LMCC’s presence in Manhattan’s arts and cultural landscape are now prominently visible through LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island for the whole community to enjoy.”

“For more than 45 years, LMCC has championed artists and their visions to transform urban spaces,” said Diego Segalini, LMCC’s executive director of finance & administration. “LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island will be a space to connect artists and communities on both a human and personal scale.”

The inaugural 2019 Fall season includes two feature exhibitions: The Power of Two Suns by Yto Barrada with Bettina and Extinct in New York by Michael Wang. In addition to new exhibitions, the center will also host the Take Care Series every Saturday from 2:00-5:00 PM, consisting of programs for all ages to experience art and explore creative potential.
