Farmingville, NY Brookhaven supervisor Ed Romaine and members of the council were presented with a $73,100 rebate check at the April 21 town board meeting for participating in PSEG LI’s Commercial Efficiency Program throughout last year. The town upgraded 525 four ft. T8 fluorescent bulbs to more efficient 2x4 LED panels at town hall and replaced 202 inefficient fluorescent systems and incandescent lamps to premium LED technology at the Animal Shelter. All installations were handled by town employees.
The upgrade is part of supervisor Romaine’s “Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Initiative,” part of a five-year Capital Plan to achieve a 50% reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 2020. The plan focuses on Town-owned Buildings and Facilities, Traffic Controls, Street Lights and Town Vehicles.
Supervisor Romaine said, “The Town is committed to doing whatever we can to cut energy costs and protect the environment. I thank PSEG Long Island for their support and for being a great partner in our efforts to save taxpayer dollars and reduce our carbon footprint.”
“Adopting energy-efficient upgrades is an effective way to help the Town of Brookhaven save energy, reduce operating costs and save money,” said Michael Voltz, PSEG Long Island’s director of energy efficiency and renewables. “PSEG Long Island and its Commercial Efficiency Program are helping towns and businesses across Long Island add energy efficiency and renewables to their energy portfolio to help save energy, decrease the usage of fossil fuels and protect the environment.
