Professional Profile: Jim Bushong, 2014

Name: Jim Bushong AIA Title: Associate, Senior Designer Company: FXFOWLE Architects Location: New York, N.Y. Birthplace: Columbus, OH Education: University of Cincinnati, M. Arch. 2005 First job outside of real estate: I spent summers working with my dad in his different businesses, including logging and trucking companies. First job in real estate or allied field: Architectural internship at Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge in Chicago What do you do now and what are you planning for the future? I'm a senior designer responsible for overseeing the daily design and development of large-scale building projects. I intend to continue growing in my experience and understanding of architecture and critical design thinking. How do you unwind from a busy day in real estate? Time with my family is always the best way to put a busy day behind me. My four-year-old son keeps me laughing! Favorite book or author: One of my favorites is "Delirious New York" by Rem Koolhaas. He's truly one of the great minds in architecture today. Favorite movie: This time of year, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" is at the top of the list. Last song you purchased/downloaded? The latest Spotify station I started following was Edge of Alternative One word to describe your work environment: Thoughtful Rules to live by in business: "You only get out of something what you are willing to put into it." Not sure who first said it, but it's the truth. If you could invite one person to dinner (living or dead) who would it be and where would you go? Without a question I'm spending a night on the town with Anthony Bourdain. I don't know what we would do, but I'm pretty sure it would involve some cheap beer and street food. What is your dream job? From an architectural standpoint, working on innovative high-rise buildings in major cities around the world is pretty incredible, but if there has to be a "dream" aspect to it, then architecture affording me the opportunity to own an NBA team would really be a dream come true!
