President's message: Upcoming NYSCAR events

The NYSCAR board of governors met in Sept. in Saratoga Springs and had a very productive meeting. I am pleased to report that the following individuals were elected as governors of the association to serve a three-year term:  Brian DiNardo, Rochester; Jim Kelly, Syracuse; and Jerome Norton, CCIM, SIOR, Long Island. Also the following individuals were elected to serve as officers for 2009: president, Maureen Wilson, CCIM, SIOR, Binghamton; first VP, Joseph Rowley, Jr., Rochester; second VP, Michael Johnson, Buffalo; secretary, Richard Ferro, CCIM, Albany; and treasurer, John Lavelle, Hudson Valley. Plans are underway to set up a strategic planning event, as well as the first board of governors meeting for 2009. We are pleased to introduce the new NYSCAR website at www.nyscar.org.  The site features links for information on membership, the chapters and calendar of events. The site also features the current newsletter, as well as past issues and a searchable membership directory.  There is a members-only section for members to broadcast email the membership, add their bio information and access documents, such as listing forms and the NYSCAR bylaws.  We know you will find the site beneficial. Chet Allen, CCIM, SEC (California), will return on October 27-28 to teach his "Developing and Syndicating" course at the Holiday Inn on Wolf Rd. in Albany.  Allen taught the class last year and is back by popular demand to teach again! Don't miss this exciting opportunity. Go to www.nyscar.org for a course brochure.  On Wednesday, October 29, the day following the class, the Greater Capital chapter of NYSCAR will hold a commercial marketing session, also at the Holiday Inn in Albany. This will be another great opportunity to network with your colleagues.  Contact Richard Ferro, CCIM (email: [email protected]) to register or Bob Giniecki, CCIM, SEC, with questions (email:  [email protected]). The 8th Annual NYS Commercial Real Estate Conference, sponsored by NYSCAR, the No. N.J./N.Y. state chapter of CCIM, NYS upstate and downstate chapters of SIOR and SEC will be held June 1-3, 2009 at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona. If your company would be interested in getting some outstanding exposure to commercial practitioners from across the state, as well as other states, please email Sherry for sponsorship opportunities ([email protected]). On a final note, we would like to remind you that the National Association of Realtors will hold their annual conference November 7-10, in Orlando, Fla. (go to realtor.org for a full schedule and registration information) and the Triple Play Conference, sponsored by the N.J., N.Y. and Penn. Associations of Realtors  will be held in Atlantic City, N.J., December 9-11  (go to www.realtorstripleplay.com for a full schedule and registration information). Both events will have programs of interest to commercial practitioners. Maureen Wilson, CCIM, SIOR, is the 2008 president of the New York State Commercial Association of Realtors, Albany, N.Y.
