P.W. Grosser Consulting awards 2013 scholarships to three high school students

Local Long Island environmental consulting and engineering firm, P.W. Grosser Consulting (PWGC) held their annual luncheon honoring the 2013 PWGC Scholarship Program winners. First place went to Shelby Guercio from Sachem High School North. She will be awarded a $750 scholarship. Runner-up recipients included Matthew Bracco from Smithtown High School West and Kristen Malec from West Babylon High School. They were each awarded a $500 scholarship. In the past several years, the PWGC scholarship program has awarded over $5,000 in scholarships to students who are continuing their education. These scholarships help pave the way for these bright young students from diverse backgrounds to excel in the engineering profession, which will ultimately benefit us all. Each year, PWGC requires an essay with every application; all of the winner's essays were informative, well-written and contained creative ideas. The 2013 Scholarship recipients include: * (First Place) Shelby Guercio from Sachem High School North will be awarded a $750 scholarship. Guercio will attend Temple University this fall studying Geology. Guercio is ranked 26th out of a class of 522, has a GPA of 98.74 and was awarded the following: Science National Honor Society Chapter, AP Scholar with Honor Award, and National Honor Society. * (Runner-Up) Matthew Bracco from Smithtown High School West was awarded a $500 scholarship. Bracco will attend Virginia Tech this fall studying General Engineering. Bracco has a GPA of 4.14 and was awarded the following: AP Scholar with Honor Award, National Honor Society, Italian Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society and is an Eagle Scout. * (Runner-Up) Kristen Malec from West Babylon High School was awarded a $500 scholarship. Malec will attend the University of Connecticut this fall studying Civil Engineering. Malec is ranked 79th out of a class of 344, has a GPA of 95.21 and was awarded membership into the National Honor Society.
