Outside the Region: Rome to lead U.S. healthcare practice as senior vice president at WSP

Dallas, TX Nolan Rome has been named leader of the U.S. healthcare practice of WSP, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy. A senior vice president, Rome has served on the firm’s property and buildings and healthcare leadership teams for the past several years, and is a co-leader of WSP’s global healthcare practice. 

He has led some of the firm’s highest profile health and hospital projects, including a surgery and patient tower expansion of Oklahoma University Medical Center and as the senior project manager on an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract for NAVFAC as part of a joint venture with HKS. The IDIQ includes a series of projects totaling over $400 million in construction costs. He was also the principal in charge for the Dell Seton Medical Center University of Texas Teaching Hospital and the Dell Children’s Medical Center. Dell Children’s Medical Center was the first healthcare project worldwide to be certified LEED Platinum. 

“Our healthcare business focuses on delivering facilities the critical building systems they need to perform efficiently and effectively,” said Rick Rome, executive vice president and managing director for building systems at WSP. “Nolan will lead our healthcare team in focusing on patients, doctors and staff to accommodate these projects’ specific needs and support future-ready healthcare environments.”

WSP is a leader in healthcare engineering, with a proven track record of delivering innovative design solutions for acute and general hospitals, cancer care and research, children’s hospitals, high performance hospitals, and mental health facilities. The firm is currently providing services to hospitals across the country and internationally, including Atlanta Children’s, Banner University Medical Center, Kuwait Children’s Hospital and a 1.5 million s/f hospital project currently under construction in China. It was ranked the top healthcare engineering firm in North America in 2017 by Building Design + Construction. 

Rome holds a bachelor’s of science in architectural engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a licensed professional engineer in Texas, Arizona, California and New Mexico, and a LEED AP.
