Ones to Watch Fall 2022: Bradley Todd, Shawmut Design and Construction

Bradley Todd
Project Executive – Life Sciences
Shawmut Design and Construction

What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of? We’re currently working with Taconic Partners, one of the leading life science real estate developers in New York, at the Hudson Research Center on the West Side of Manhattan as part of their larger vision to create a state-of-the-art research hub. Together with our partners at Perkins & Will and JB&B, we’re renovating an existing floorplan into an innovative space that will feature leading-edge life sciences labs, offices, and collaboration areas.

Tell us about a mentor or role model that has influenced your career choices?

Earlier in my career when I was a superintendent, I had a mentor who encouraged me to take innovative approaches to my projects by being comfortable with being uncomfortable—particularly saying, “the good stuff happens outside of your comfort zone.”

What is one lesson that you had to learn the hard way?

Nearly 20 years ago, I quickly learned that Europeans date their documents differently than here in the U.S. This lesson quickly taught me that attention to detail at every level of the project—particularly in the construction and design industry—is one of the most critical components to my job, and it’s something I underscore with each of my teams.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

My wife and I are animal lovers—we rescue dogs, shelter our neighborhood feral cats, and have gotten involved transporting rescue dogs to help get animals coming from the south to their new forever homes in the tri-state area.
