News Outside the Region: T.R. ENGEL completes management of $16 million resort renovation project

League City, TX According to T.R. ENGEL Group, LLC, (TRE), it has completed its role as project manager of the $16 million renovation and repositioning of the South Shore Harbor Resort and Conference Center. TRE is continuing as asset manager of the resort.

TRE is also assisting joint venture ownership with project management services at the 291-room, new-build InterContinental Hotel at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. The hotel will be connected to the airport.

“Our role in these efforts is to provide project management-related services to the joint venture,” said Tom Engel, principal of TRE.  “As a multi-faceted hospitality firm, we typically work with joint venture managers to share recommendations for the development of guest rooms, food and beverage options, and back and front of the house technology and efficiencies.”

The 237-room South Shore Harbor Resort and Conference Center is the area’s largest full-service waterside resort and conference center, located just 30 minutes south of Houston. Capitalizing on the region’s energy and high tech growth and the resort’s leisure amenities, the resort is implementing its new business plan.  Construction included full renovation of marina-side pool and swim-up bar, new integrated lobby bar-restaurant and more than 200 redesigned guest rooms, two redesigned multilevel penthouses and a lobby bar with panoramic views of the water.

Galveston-based American National Insurance Co. owns the hotel; Dallas-based design firm Flick-Mars led the redesign; Providence, R.I.-based Gilbane was the general contractor and TRE served as project manager.  The hotel is managed by 1859 Historic Hotels.

T.R. ENGEL Group, LLC, is currently working with Boston-based Intercontinental Real Estate Corp. and Minneapolis-based Graves Hospitality in the development of the new 291-room hotel under at Terminal 1 of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.  TRE has been retained by this joint venture between Intercontinental Real Estate and Graves Hospitality. The hotel will be branded as an InterContinental Hotel and will feature a main floor restaurant, contemporary spa, penthouse-level observation bar and more than 25,000 s/f of meeting and event space.

The InterContinental will open in mid-2018 and will be connected via skyway to Terminal 1. This marks the first hotel to be built on airport property and the second InterContinental in Minnesota.
