New York, NY New York Building Congress chairman Thomas Scarangello headlined a group of Building Congress members to be named to the National Academy of Construction (Academy) in 2015. Scarangello, who also serves as the chairman and CEO of Thornton Tomasetti, was one of 26 industry leaders from around the nation to be named to the Academy’s 2015 class.  The Building Congress members who joined him this year are Metropolitan Transportation Authority chairman and CEO Thomas Prendergast, Tishman Speyer senior managing director Thomas Farrell, and Tishman Construction president for the Americas Peter Marchetto, who also served as Building Congress chairman from 2010 to 2012. In 2014, seven Building Congress members were inducted into the Academy: Jane Chmielinski of AECOM, Gregory Kelly of WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff, Jeffrey Levy of RailWorks Corporation, George Pierson of WSP Global, Milo Riverso of STV Group, Inc.,  Frank Sciame of Sciame Construction LLC, and Michael Zetlin of Zetlin & De Chiara LLP. A number of professionals from Building Congress member organizations are also recent inductees, including Garry Higdem of Parsons Corporation, Jane Penny of AECOM, Howard Stussman of Engineering News-Record, and Charles Harrington of Parsons Corporation. The National Academy of Construction is an organization of industry leaders who have made outstanding contributions to the engineering and construction industry. The goal of the Academy is to recognize these leaders for their achievements through election to the Academy. An additional purpose is to draw on the knowledge, experience, and talents of members to support continuing improvements to the industry. The Academy is composed of a wide variety of industry representatives, including construction users, designers, constructors, consultants, attorneys, sureties, and academics. “I’m honored to be elected into the National Academy of Construction and to be recognized by my peers for my contributions to advancing this industry,” Scarangello said. Building Congress president Richard Anderson, who was inducted into the Academy’s 2006 class said, “It is a testament to the great strength, integrity, and ingenuity of the New York City building industry to see so many of our members recognized for their great leadership and professional achievements by the National Academy of Construction. It also serves as further validation of the tremendous contributions our members are making throughout the world.”
