Nassau County LEAC approves transaction for S. Nassau Community Hospital for renovations of campus

Mineola, NY The Nassau County Local Economic Assistance Council (LEAC) has approved a transaction for South Nassau Community Hospital to receive $90 million in tax-exempt bonds to finance and refinance the renovation and improvement of the hospital’s existing campus at One Healthy Way in Oceanside. The project will result in the creation of 25 to 30 new temporary jobs during the construction phase and work is expected to be complete within three years.

“Our hospitals provide an invaluable service to the residents of Nassau County and it is crucial that they receive all of the support necessary to treat their patients,” said Nassau County LEAC chairman Richard Kessel. “South Nassau Community Hospital played a vital part in helping our community overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, and this project will allow its staff to continue their excellence in their service to our residents. We are proud to assist this project and we are looking forward to seeing the improvements come to fruition.”

This project will see upgrades to two medical/surgical units to now contain 46 private rooms with improved ventilation systems. These rooms will be crucial in the isolation of infectious diseases, as their ability to be transformed into negative pressure quarters prevents contagions from escaping into other areas of the hospital. They can also be converted into double rooms to accommodate additional patients if needed.

New neurosurgical equipment will be added through this project, allowing surgeons to treat patients, particularly those suffering from strokes, by using three-dimensional imaging technology. The pair of cardiac catheterization labs within the hospital will also receive renovations and additional equipment.
