Name: Katherine Mahon Title: Vice President, Brokerage Company/Firm: Cassidy Turley Years with company/firm: 3 Years in field: 10 Years in real estate industry: 10 Telephone: 212-318-9705 Email: [email protected] URL: http://www.cassidyturley.com/profile/katherine.mahon Real Estate Associations/Affiliations: Member, Real Estate Board of New York Licensed Real Estate Professional in New York and Connecticut Member, International Council of Shopping Centers What is your biggest leadership challenge, other than the "glass ceiling"? I've always firmly believed that the glass ceiling only exists if you allow it to. While real estate is a male-dominated industry, teaching the young women I've worked with throughout my career how to become the woman they want to be has been the most challenging and rewarding aspect of my career. What is the most daring thing you've done for your career? How did it turn out for you? After being with one commercial real estate firm for 10 years, leaving was a very big decision for me. However, knowing about Cassidy Turley's plan, and Peter Hennessy's vision for New York made my decision easy. And over the course of the two years I've been with Cassidy Turley, I haven't regretted my decision for even a day. What is the BEST advice you have ever received? The best advice I ever received was from a very high-powered woman in the industry. She told me that if you're knowledgeable and know your job inside and out, you will command respect, regardless of our industry being male-dominated. And commanding respect is always more effective than demanding it. What is your favorite tip for balanced living? Having "walk and talk" meetings with coworkers outside is really important to me. Even if we just walk to the corner and back, the combination of breathing fresh air and physically standing up from your desk can make you infinitely more productive.
