What year did you start your career in commercial real estate: 2012
Real Estate Associations/Organizations: CREW,
What recent project or transaction are you most proud of?
In March of 2015, I released an in-depth research paper regarding a federal commercial real estate regulation, EB-5. The 15 page report, generated over the course of approximately six month, evaluates the federal EB-5 program to a degree not previously attempted by any other commercial real estate firm.
As a result, Savills Studley was able to secure dozens of media placements in publications including Reuters, The Economic Times, BBC, CNBC, and International Business Times, reaching an estimated total audience of over 83 million people.
What recent honor, achievement or recognition has meant the most to you and why?
In February 2015 I was nominated by her commercial real estate peers as one of the industry's "15 Women to Watch in Real Estate." As a peer nominated award, it was truly rewarding to be thought of in such high regard. In an industry where women comprise a relatively small percentage of workers, it's great to think that I've helped encourage other women to advance their profession.
Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why?
Throughout my career I have had the great fortune to work among some of the best, brightest talent in the financial services and commercial real estate industries. My colleagues have helped me immensely along the way and encourage me to be both thoughtful and passionate about my work.
What is the first thing you do when you arrive in the office in the morning?
The first order of business, typically, is to scour the day's news and pick out articles that may have an effect on the brokers. In March, I began a daily email newsletter, CRE Lens: News to Know, that highlights key commercial real estate information delivered directly to every broker's inbox. The goal is to add value by ensuring the brokers have information they need to be successful.
What time management strategies do you find to be the most effective for you?
To manage my time effectively, I have to prioritize. Sometimes that means urgent requests first, then everything else or that can mean working smarter not harder - complete tasks that roll into one another and finish tasks more efficiently.
What is the best advice you have received and who was it from?
The best advice I received was from my high school guidance counselor, who suggested that in making a decision, I should think about the "before, during and after." After I make a decision (but before it's implemented) how do I feel about it? How will the decision impact me, not just during the typical 9 - 5 day, but at 6:45 AM on a Tuesday and 11:03 PM on a Saturday? And most importantly, how will the decision affect me years from now? Will it matter?
List 3 women that you would like to have drinks / dinner with and where would you go?
I had the fortune of knowing both of my grandmothers, so I would love to have met their mothers—I'm guessing I would have come away with a much better understanding of what it means to be a working woman! Professionally, I would jump at the opportunity to meet Janet Yellen. I'd let her tell me what the best spot in her Brooklyn neighborhood is the best.
What is your favorite quote?
"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." - Albert Einstein
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I always fashioned myself after Harriet from Harriet the Spy and tried to convince others that I could read their minds with my ESP skills—which would have made me a great fit for the CIA or FBI. Fortunately, I get to use my sleuthing skills daily in the course of conducting CRE research.
