Kenworthey joins HOK as principal and leader of planning practice

Manhattan, NY William Kenworthey, AIA, has joined HOK in N.Y. as a principal and leader of its planning practice for the northeast region. As an urban designer and registered architect, he will lead HOK’s planning and urban design projects across the region. 

“Bill’s wide range of planning and design experience is a wonderful addition to our practice and gives us the opportunity to strengthen our commitment to the urban fabric while engaging our clients in the earliest stages of project conceptualization,” said Carl Galioto, FAIA, managing principal of HOK’s N.Y. and Philadelphia offices. “He will guide the development of integrated solutions across the northeast region while supporting our global planning and urban design practice.”

He joins HOK from Cooper Robertson, where he was a partner and the urban design practice leader. His experience includes high-profile projects such as the Master Plan for the Central Delaware in Philadelphia; the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Campus Plan; the University of Delaware Campus Framework Plan; Miracle Mile and Giralda Ave. Streetscape Design in Coral Gables, Fla.; and the Hunters Point and Candlestick Point Master Streetscape Plan in San Francisco.

He also led the coordination of the community planning team for the New York City Mayor’s Office Special Initiative for Rebuilding and Resiliency. Previously, he worked as an associate urban designer for the New York City Department of City Planning.

Kenworthey, who serves as an advising expert for the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities program, frequently presents at university and industry events. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Wentworth Institute of Technology and a Master of Science degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University.

HOK’s current and recent projects include LaGuardia Airport Central Terminal B in New York; The NewYork-Presbyterian David H. Koch Ambulatory Care Center in New York; Penn State University Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Building in University Park, Pennsylvania; the mixed-use 147–151 East 86th St. in New York; and the Chancery of the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations in New York.
