JRM Construction completes 5,400 s/f Wellness Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery

Manhattan, NY JRM Construction Management has completed the Wellness Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). The 5,400 s/f facility provides holistic wellness solutions for HSS’s employees – offering an inviting space that addresses healthcare worker burnout and promotes both mental and physical wellbeing.

Constructed in collaboration with Mapos Architects and R.G. Vanderweil Engineers, the HSS Wellness Center was conceived as a resource for all HSS staff. Amenities include a multi-purpose training room, hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers, a multi-sensory recharge room, and a reflecting and reading area. Comprehensive MEP system upgrades, a new air handling unit (AHU), and high-end finishes such as custom wood veneer, plastic laminate millwork, and cork board paneling reflect JRM’s commitment to quality craftsmanship and seamless project execution.

“Our entire team at JRM is honored to collaborate with HSS to create a space that champions the wellness of those who devote their lives to caring for others,” said Joseph Romano, CEO at JRM Construction Management. “We believe that the HSS Wellness Center will not only enhance day-to-day staff wellbeing but also foster a workplace culture where employees feel recognized and supported.”

The new facility integrates diverse offerings—ranging from yoga and HIIT classes to hyperbaric oxygen therapy and a custom-built recharge room by Studio Elsewhere—ensuring there is truly something for every individual’s wellness journey. By encouraging teamwork, self-care, and a sense of community, the HSS Wellness Center underscores HSS leadership’s ongoing commitment to delivering the same level of extraordinary care to staff that patients have come to expect from the renowned institution.
