Ivy Realty and Onyx Equities honored at BOMA Hall of Honor dinner for support and encourage economic growth in Westchester County

Tarrytown, NY More than 150 members of Westchester’s commercial real estate industry were on hand May 11 for the 26th Annual Hall of Honor Awards Dinner of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Westchester (BOMA) held at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill.

This year’s Hall of Honor Award, which is given to those who support and encourage economic growth in Westchester County, was presented to Ivy Realty and Onyx Equities.   

Ivy Realty was founded in 1996 to acquire commercial real estate in the northeastern U.S. and later expanded into southeastern Florida. Since its inception, the company has built a reputation as one of the finest real estate operators in the market having acquired over $1.5 billion and 11 million s/f in assets. A recent $30 million capital improvement program at One North Broadway and 445 Hamilton Ave. in White Plains has repositioned those assets. Accepting the award for Ivy Realty was Eric Levy, vice president, asset management.

Onyx Equities is a leading real estate investment and property services firm that specializes in acquiring, managing, and or repositioning commercial properties. Onyx Equities operates in the tristate area as well as a number of southern states.  Their Westchester County properties include 1111-1129 Westchester Ave. and 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., both in White Plains. The two assets have undergone renovations including lobby and common area upgrades, new chiller, parking lot paving and parking garage restoration to name a few. Accepting the award for Onyx Equities was Jeffrey Fuller, director, property management.

The BOMA President’s Award was presented to Dean Bender for his many years of service on the board. Bender, a partner of the Briarcliff Manor-based public relations and advertising firm Thompson & Bender, has been volunteering his time and talents to BOMA Westchester for almost 20 years. He first joined the BOMA Board in 1999 offering to lend his assistance with marketing, press relations, and the writing and production of the newsletter. He has continued with this volunteerism ever since. He is currently the public relations advisor for the board handling all publicity as well as BOMA Westchester’s newsletter.

This year’s Best of BOMA Award winners were:

Reposition/Repurpose Award was presented to Mamaroneck Self Storage which is developed by Murphy Brothers Contracting Inc. Mamaroneck Self Storage is a 40,000 self-storage facility, designed by Port Chester architect Kim Martelli and developed by the Murphy Brothers Contracting on their own property in the Village of Mamaroneck. A recent winner of a 2016 HOBI Award for “Best Green Commercial Project,” the Murphy Brothers, Sean & Chris, collaborated with nationally known energy consultants, Steven Winter Associates to construct their building under NYSERDA’s New Construction Program to rate 52% more energy efficient than required by the NYS building code. Accepting the award was Laura Murphy, facility manager.

Medical Use Operations Awards was presented to Northern Westchester Executive Park which is owned and managed by GHP Office Realty. 

The Northern Westchester Executive Park boasts an impressive tenant roster including some of the premier medical and office tenants in Westchester County and the state. The existing tenants in the park include New York Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital, North Shore LIJ, PCSB Bank and Mount Sinai/Merritt Healthcare to name a few. This tenant mix creates a synergy unparalleled in the typical Westchester office park, presenting Mercy College with direct access to working professionals, and current students with direct access to regional employers. Accepting the award was Andrew Greenspan, principal.

Most Active Leasing Team or Broker Award was presented to Reckson, a division of SL Green Realty Corp. SL Green’s Westchester portfolio consists of 13 class A office buildings located in downtown White Plains, Valhalla, Rye Brook and Tarrytown. In 2016, the three-person leasing team of Larry Kwiat, Robert Swierbut and Willard Overlock completed over 30 lease transactions in the portfolio. Leases ranged from under 1,000 square feet to over 50,000 square feet and totaled approximately 300,000 square feet for the year. The leasing horizon for Westchester continues to look bright as the team has already completed 13 leasing transactions in the 1st Quarter of 2017. Accepting the award was Larry Kwiat, senior vice president, leasing.
