IREM’s 2026 Summer of Service with Friends in Need
Manhattan, NY Local chapters of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) participated in the 2026 Summer of Service to celebrate the daily impact property managers have in their communities by bringing together participants in service to help communities thrive. A summer rainstorm didn’t deter the chapter’s Summer of Service volunteers on Saturday, July 18th. We worked with Friends in Need distributing food to the less fortunate in Tompkins Square Park in New York City.
Friends in Need Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization with a purpose of helping the less fortunate by providing food, clothing, and living necessities, as well as working with other organizations dedicated to ending or minimizing hunger and hardship.
They also donate food and volunteer time to shelters and soup kitchens in need of financial and human resources. They also distribute warm clothing and accessories during the cold winter months and offer assistance to families through their Family Support Program
Friends in Need’s feeding programs was initiated in New York City in 2002. Since then, they have established and maintained regular programs in four metropolitan areas including New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and Pensacola, Florida. The organization, run by volunteers, continues to grow with complete dedication to their mission of helping those in need.
Our chapter donated and distributed food to over 200 people on Saturday morning. Yes, we were soaked to the bone. And yes, it was 100% worth it!
