HUNT Engineers and Architects’ 50th anniversary

November 14, 2023 - Upstate New York

Rochester, NY For HUNT Engineers and Architects, a holistic mission to provide services to the communities where its employees “live, work, & play” began in 1973 in the aftermath of Hurricane Agnes, with HUNT-EAS founder Robert Hunt bringing his engineering skills to bear on behalf of his Corning and Southern Tier neighbors.

Corning and Elmira have long since recovered from what the national press described as “war zone” conditions, and while Hunt’s mechanical survey tools have since given way to GIS mapping, drones, and digital laser and GPS tools, the firm continues with its mission to serve its local school districts and municipalities.

Underscoring that focus, in February 2023 HUNT purchased its longtime consultant partner, the 65-year-old, Shumaker Consulting Engineering and Land Surveying, and incorporated its staff in Binghamton and Albany, bringing the firm’s combined staff count to 180. At the time, HUNT’s CEO Chris Bond noted the two firms’ similar approach to community building, saying that “85% of HUNT’s workload comes from repeat clients”.

Meanwhile, at its Rochester High Falls office, HUNT named Marty Muggleton as its office director. A Cornell graduate and economic development expert with a business development and research background, Muggleton draws upon experiences and relationships in Northern PA, the Southern Tier (where he was the Corning Chamber president), and most recently in the Rochester region as a HUNT solar developer lead. Further bolstering HUNT’s full-service, A&E offerings in Rochester, this summer Marty added Makayla Friery, an interior designer; Bob McBride, transportation engineering; Adam Badura, an architectural designer; and Stacey Waxtan.

In August, Waxtan took on HUNT’s Interior Design Group leadership post.
