Hotel Workers Union endorses Banks for city council in the 42nd District

Chris Banks

Brooklyn, NY The HTC (The Hotel and Gaming Trades Council) has put their support behind Chris Banks in the city council race in the 42nd District, which includes East New York, Starrett City, Brownsville, Canarsie, and East Flatbush.

“Chris has been a supporter and fighter for worker’s rights and fair wages as a community advocate for years. We are excited to have the opportunity to support him in his run for city council. His willingness to partner with hotel workers in our continuous fight for fairness in the workplace is invaluable,” said Bhav Tibrewal, political director for HTC.

“I am grateful to have the support of the Hotel Workers. Their support in this race gives us another partner, which is what my campaign is built on. It’s going to take partnerships and collaborating with members of the community to move the district forward”, said Banks.

HTC represents nearly 40,000 hospitality and game workers, including: housekeepers, bartenders, servers, engineers, slot attendants, dealers, security officers and others.

Banks added, “Unions play a crucial role in moving people out of poverty and into living wage careers. I am looking forward to working closely with HTC and other unions when it comes to introducing members of our community to union employment opportunities.”
