Horst Design International creates 1,400 s/f D'Lites ice cream eatery

As the first designer type ice cream emporium on Long Island, D'Lites brings a touch of class to its flagship location in the upscale Woodbury Village shopping center. This health conscious soft serve ice cream features low carbs, low fat and low sugar for a guilt-free treat. Recognized for its unique restaurant and retail interior environments, the award winning Horst Design International, Cold Spring Harbor, LI, was selected to gut and transform the 1,400 s/f handbag shop into a monochromatic ice cream eatery. Adding splashes of pink to the black and white palette, the designers created a fun and fashionable look. "Consumers view the ice cream shop as a "Wow" space," said Ben Horst, project designer at HDI. According to the owners Magda Abt & Todd Coven who are opening several stores in the tri-state area, "HDI gave us the elegance and sophistication in our flagship facility that appeals to our high end clientele." The color scheme and clean looking environment depicts this smart and sophisticated product. "By blending a modern décor with a traditional edge to the architecture, the bright store exemplifies that this ice cream is different than others and for customers of all ages," said Doug Horst, president, HDI. This is depicted by the ceiling's floating 4' x 8' planes with crown moulding trim - a modern spin on a traditional coffered ceiling, with adjacent energy-efficient fluorescent track lighting.
