Heatherwood Luxury Rentals welcomes Sallie as director of planning and development

Commack, NY According to Heatherwood Luxury Rentals, Sean Sallie will join the company as director of planning and development, expanding Heatherwood’s planning and development capabilities. He will report directly to Christopher Capece, president of Heatherwood.

In hiring Sallie, Heatherwood recognized the strategic value of bringing on board a skilled planning executive who has demonstrated considerable experience and talent managing large-scale development projects and who has long-term relationships in the Long Island market and beyond.

According to Capece said: “This is an important strategic move for Heatherwood. Apart from a long track record of integrity in government, Sean brings a wealth of development experience to the table. As director of planning and development, Sean will enable us to more easily leverage and reposition legacy Heatherwood land holdings and existing communities on and off Long Island. His considerable experience with large developments and capital projects will not only enhance our ability to focus on new development and redevelopment opportunities in our traditional Long Island market, but it will also add value as we consider opportunities in new markets. We are all very excited that Sean is joining the Heatherwood team.”

Sallie said, “I couldn’t be more excited about joining such a prominent development organization. After over 20 years in planning and development on the local government and regulatory side, I’m looking forward to applying those years of experience to the challenges that confront the private sector. I’ve seen those challenges from the other side of the table. Now, I have the opportunity to help Heatherwood surmount them and grow its portfolio. I can’t wait to join the team and begin this important work!”

Sallie holds a B.A. in physical geography and environmental systems from SUNY Buffalo and a Master’s degree from Long Island University in environmental planning and management. He is also an AICP certified planner with over 20 years of experience managing complex infrastructure projects, community development issues, and environmental impact analyses. As Deputy Commissioner of Public Works in Nassau County, Mr. Sallie oversaw the mobility planning and design program, the resiliency and sustainability infrastructure program, and the division of planning which serves as staff to the Nassau County Planning Commission. He has extensive experience shepherding and managing transit-oriented-developments (TODs) and multifamily developments in both welcoming and hostile community environments.

Mitchell Pally, CEO of the Long Island Builders Institute (LIBI), said, “I have had the pleasure of working with Sean during the course of my 12 years at LIBI. I’m certain that his experience and expertise will greatly benefit Heatherwood, as it continues to provide Long Island residents with additional housing options. Sean was one of the most insightful government officials in the County. He understands the need for multifamily housing on Long Island. I congratulate Sean on a great career at Nassau County, and I know that he will be a tremendous asset to the Heatherwood team.”

Douglas Partrick, owner of Heatherwood, said, “Sean‘s expertise and understanding of municipal planning will allow us to expand our capabilities outside of our core region, a strategy that we continue to examine due to an increasingly restrictive regulatory and tax environment in New York State. Long Island has historically been a challenging submarket for development. We think that with Sean’s help we can deepen our local development capabilities, as well as look to bring our investments to new regions.”

When Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) were first part of commercial real estate risk management, it was the lenders driving this requirement. When a borrower wanted a loan on a property, banks would utilize a list of “Approved Consultants” to order the report on both refinances and purchases.
