Gotham Organization and RiseBoro celebrate opening of Gotham Point

December 13, 2022 - Owners Developers & Managers

Queens, NY The Gotham Organization, together with RiseBoro Community Partnership, has completed Gotham Point, the newest residential development in the Hunter’s Point South waterfront neighborhood. The project offers an affordable housing component as well as market rate, and a dedicated senior living wing with special programming led by RiseBoro.

Gotham Organization and RiseBoro leadership were joined by Queens Borough president Donovan Richards, New York City Housing Preservation and Development commissioner Adolfo Carrión Jr. and New York City Housing Development corporation senior vice president for Development Lauren Connors. This event commemorates the opening of the North Tower to affordable residents on December 1st; the South Tower was completed in March 2022.

Gotham Point consists of two towers, including 1,132 total residences with 75% of units priced at affordable rates, as well as a separate, senior housing wing. Designed by Handel Architects, the residences feature panoramic city and river views, plank flooring, premium stainless-steel appliances, quartz countertops, gas range stove tops and dishwashers.

With 98 homes set aside in an 11-story dedicated wing for low-income independent senior living, Gotham Point meets the needs of New York City’s growing senior citizen population. The senior living community will feature its own dedicated lobby space as well as a lounge and laundry room on each floor, library, and community room with a shared pantry. The senior wing will also include an outdoor terrace with views of the Manhattan skyline. RiseBoro will be leading special programming for the senior community.

The amenity spaces at Gotham Point foster healthy living and community engagement and are accessible to all residents across both towers. Included amenities are 24-hour attended lobbies, a rooftop terrace, resident lounges and sundecks, an indoor and outdoor fitness club, a children’s playroom and a publicly accessible urban rooftop farm. Residents will have access to dedicated co-working lounges with breakout meeting rooms, private phone rooms and multi-person desks fully equipped with outlets.

Within the North Tower, Gotham Point includes small-format retail spaces designed to meet the needs of the community, as well community facility spaces and a below-grade public parking garage.

On the ground floor of the South Tower, community facility space is designated for a community boathouse and for Flux Factory’s fourth and newest location, “Flux IV”, to support emerging artists with an artist-in-residence program.

Located on the water, Gotham Point offers convenient access to Hunter’s Point South Park and the restaurants and retail in the Long Island City neighborhood. The towers are well-located and moments from the 7 subway line, the East River Ferry and the Long Island Rail Road, with a complimentary shuttle connecting residents to all other subway lines at Court Square.

“After many years of thoughtful collaboration with the City and RiseBoro Community Partnership, it is incredible to see our vision of a diverse and inclusive community come to life at Gotham Point,” said David Picket, CEO of Gotham Organization. “This project embodies the future of housing in New York City; it is not just a residential tower but a place where community will thrive and grow.”

“The delivery of over a thousand affordable, senior and market rate housing units comes at a quintessential time when New York City needs it most,” said Bryan Kelly, president of development at Gotham Organization. “I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to our incredible partners and everyone who worked diligently to bring Gotham Point to life. I am proud to celebrate the opening of this community-driven project, which I am confident will become a landmark property in Long Island City.”

“RiseBoro is thrilled to partner with Gotham Organization and provide low-income seniors with access to safe, stable, independent, and affordable housing. This is an incredible addition to the community of Long Island City and most importantly New York City,” said Scott Short, CEO of RiseBoro Community Partnership. “The delivery of these 98 homes will make an impact into the lives of many, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone today.”

“There are few things more critical for us as a city than ensuring all our communities, regardless of ZIP code, remain affordable and accessible to all who call them home, especially our seniors. With the opening of Gotham Point in Long Island City, we are taking another massive step toward doing exactly that,” said Queens Borough president Donovan Richards Jr. “With Queens in the throes of a housing crisis, opening hundreds of units of high-quality affordable housing, including nearly 100 units of housing set aside for low-income seniors, in Western Queens is a game-changer.”

“Our Administration’s housing and homelessness blueprint, Housing Our Neighbors, makes it clear that we have to work with partners to push for projects that provide families stable homes as well as resources and amenities to help communities thrive, and that is what we see in Gotham Point, which is a beacon of light for our city,” said New York City chief housing officer Jessica Katz. “Congratulations to the Gotham Organization and RiseBoro, who continue to demonstrate that they know what it takes to deliver winning, mixed-used, affordable housing developments for New Yorkers. It is a special day when we can celebrate over 1,100 new homes for thousands of New Yorkers.”

“It is our city’s duty to provide access to affordable, high-quality housing. Gotham Point will do just that by investing into the vibrant Hunter’s Point South community. Thank you to everyone who has worked together on this project to ensure the long-term success and wellbeing of our Long Island City residents and businesses alike.” said deputy mayor for Economic and Workforce Development Maria Torres-Springer.

“Hunter’s Point South is the type of transformative project we see once in a generation. Through tremendous vision and hard work, these thirty vacant acres of public land gave rise to a dynamic new neighborhood featuring beautiful parkland and thousands of affordable homes,” said HPD Commissioner Adolfo Carrión Jr. “This latest phase at Gotham Point brings another 1,132 new apartments, including 849 affordable homes, as well as retail, arts and cultural space. I want to thank Gotham Organization, RiseBoro Community Partnership, my colleagues at HPD and HDC, and local elected officials for driving this important project forward.”

“The completion of Gotham Point represents a tremendous win for the Long Island City community,” said HDC president Eric Enderlin. “This dynamic project provides safe and affordable housing to New Yorkers from a range of incomes, including a dedicated wing that will serve as an independent senior living community with an array of specialized programming. Thank you to all of our partners and city officials for their dedication and congratulations to all who made today’s event possible.”
