GKA designs 200-room, 21-story hotel at 223 W. 46th Street

Manhattan, NY Gene Kaufman Architect (GKA) has broken ground on one of its latest hotels, a yet to be named property located at 223 W. 46th St. near Times Sq. The hotel, which replaces a former parking lot, comes into being through a partnership with developer Sam Chang, one of GKA’s largest clients.

The 21-story property – which, with air rights, is expected to be at least 26 stories high – will contain 70,000 s/f and 200 rooms, and a garden-level fitness center and a first-floor restaurant with outdoor seating in the rear yard.

Gene Kaufman, GKA founder and principal, said, “This hotel is just one of our recent contributions to Midtown Manhattan, which is home to many GKA-designed hotels and draws an increasing number of visitors each year. With NYC tourism showing no signs of stopping, it’s incumbent upon us as a city to provide ample mid-priced hotels for a variety of visitors who want to experience New York.”
