The projects are: the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse in New York City, Federal Center South Building 1202 in Seattle, 50 United Nations Plaza in San Francisco, and the Federal Office Building in Miramar, Florida.
According to the GSA, the awards celebrate the accomplishments of its "finest employees and the talented architects, engineers, landscape architects, urban designers, interior designers, artists, conservationists, and preservationists who create and safeguard the nation's landmarks."
"We are honored that these projects are among the 20 chosen for this biennial awards event," said Burrows. "Our engineers truly enjoy working on GSA projects, and this recognition means a lot to them."
The Thurgood Marshall Courthouse in New York City's borough of Brooklyn is an historic facility renovated in 2013. Beyer Blinder Belle served as the architect for the project, and WSP spearheaded the mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure upgrade of the 611,000 s/f building.
The Federal Center South Building, completed in 2012, is a 209,000 s/f facility situated on the campus of the Seattle District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As part of a design-build team with ZGF Architects, WSP provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural lighting, low voltage systems and High Performance Green Building consulting.
The Federal Building at 50 United Nations Plaza in San Francisco is a 350,000 s/f historic facility, renovated in 2013, on which WSP performed a full systems redesign and energy modeling services. HKS was the project's architect.
The Federal Office Building in Miramar, Florida is a new 375,000 s/f facility that will house a large federal agency. WSP provided bridging design services for the project, which is situated on a 20-acre wetlands site and which is targeting net-zero energy status on or before 2030.
