New York, NY The Fordham Real Estate Institute (REI) is launching its newest academic offering to meet the growing demand for one of the most important aspects of the real estate industry: A Master’s of Science in Construction Management. Registration is now open for classes beginning Fall 2021.

The 30-credit master’s degree is designed to ensure that every graduate will have a grasp of construction project planning and management, contracts, construction methods and materials, estimating, scheduling, financial and cost management, risk management, quality control, leadership, ethics, and negotiation to solve complex problems in the management of multimillion, and billion-dollar, construction projects. The core curriculum and capstone course provide a framework of learning opportunities that blend the best of theoretical and applied analysis, experiential learning, project simulation while building strong connections to the industry. The program may be completed part-time, full-time, in-person and online.

“There are more opportunities than ever for those wishing to pursue a career in construction management, and we are confident that our expanded offerings to support this dynamic field will help our students stand apart from their peers and further the industry,” said Dr. Anthony Davidson, dean of Fordham’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies.

The long-term outlook for one of the largest industries in the New York Metro Area, and one of the most important sectors of the economy, remains strong, employing thousands of people and directly supporting communities through affordable housing, school, healthcare, life science, industrial and public works projects. This is especially true with the expectation of new federal infrastructure investment in roads, bridges, tunnels, airports, and other public works.

“The Master of Science in Construction Management is exciting news for the industry and a big milestone for Fordham REI,” said Christopher Mills, president at Plaza Construction and member of the Fordham REI Executive Advisory Council and mentorship committee. “Construction managers will be in demand and those with the knowledge, professional skills and leadership qualities will have the best prospects for success. I am proud to be a part of Fordham’s story in rolling out meaningful and relevant professional degree programs for the building industry.”

As per the New York Building Congress, the construction industry faces a severe talent shortage and it is critical to engage, retain and develop the next generation of leaders that will bring fresh ideas and embrace innovation. The industry must provide mentorship, professional development and advocacy for its up-and-coming professionals.

“The Master of Science in Construction Management comes at a critical time for both the industry and for Fordham,” said Anthony Pastore, a senior vice president with AECOM Tishman, adjunct instructor and contributor to the Fordham REI curriculum committee. “As the construction industry becomes increasingly sophisticated and complex, there is a clear need for advanced level programs to train its current and future industry leaders. I am excited to assist with the expansion of our industry engagement through this new graduate program.”
