The NYSCAR Board of Governors will hold their first meeting of 2022 on February 8 at the Crowne Plaza/Desmond Hotel in Albany, New York. The Board will review a new Strat Plan and committee reports will be given by the committee chairs and chapter presidents.
The NYSCAR Board voted to continue to offer free education to the members for 2022.
On January 26, NYSCAR hosted “Introduction to Cost Segregation” with Frank Guidici. 35 members took advantage of this two-hour virtual continuing education class. There will be a host of great commercial courses offered throughout the year, so please watch your email for additional offerings.
Currently, NYS real estate licensees are required to take 22.5 hours of approved continuing education credit for license renewal which must include: 1 hour of recent legal matters, 3 hours on fair housing law, 2.5 hours on ethical business practices and 1 hour on agency (2 hours if this is your first renewal). Effective September 21, 2022, there are two additional courses included within the 22.5 hours of credit: 2 hours on implicit bias and 2 hours on cultural diversity.

New York State Association of Realtors Legislature moves to pass technical changes to 2021 NYS fair housing laws
State lawmakers are beginning the process of passing technical changes or amendments to a series of new fair housing laws signed by governor Kathy Hochul in December of last year. The governor and Legislature came to an agreement on changes to several fair housing laws to amend certain provisions and effective dates, which NYSAR supports. Additionally, three new fair housing laws are now in effect:
- An additional $30 surcharge to the license and renewal fee for real estate brokers and an additional $10 surcharge to the license and renewal fee for real estate salespersons to be used for statewide fair housing testing efforts.
- An increase in the maximum fine for real estate license violations from $1,000 to $2,000, with new funds dedicated to a new anti-discrimination in housing fund.
- Requirement of two years’ experience as an associate broker before being designated as an office manager; and establishes a standard for the supervision of real estate agents and associate brokers by office managers that is equivalent to that of a licensed broker.
NAR Calls on Realtors Who Give Back to Apply for the 2022 Good Neighbor Awards
The National Association of Realtors announced today that it is accepting applications for the 2022 Good Neighbor Awards. The program recognizes Realtors who have made an extraordinary impact in their communities through volunteer service.
Five winners will each receive a $10,000 grant for their nonprofit organization and will be recognized at the November 2022 Realtors Conference & Expo in Orlando, earning travel expenses to the event and considerable media exposure for their causes. Five honorable mentions will also each receive a $2,500 grant.
“During a time when so many are in need, it is encouraging to see Realtors across the country continuing to give back through volunteerism,” said NAR president Leslie Rouda Smith, a Realtor from Plano, TX, and a broker associate at Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate in Dallas. “With Realtors volunteering at nearly three times the rate of the general population, the Good Neighbor Awards shines a light on the amazing efforts that NAR members put forth to help their neighbors and better their communities.”
