The Edge - Brooklyn, NY

The Edge has recently been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Buildings Council. The Edge is one of the largest residential projects in the city to receive the LEED Gold certification and ranks among the largest in the entire country. Certification is based upon the number of points earned across several categories including water efficiency, energy, indoor environmental quality, building site and materials resources. The 565-unit, mixed-use development is now one of the city's largest residential buildings to achieve LEED certification at any level, let alone a Gold rating.
"Douglaston Development truly believes in sustainable development. We are proud to have The Edge recognized as one of the greenest buildings in the country," said Jeffrey Levine, chairman of Douglaston Development, the building's developer. "Green design features at The Edge translate into both healthier living and cost savings for the residents."
Architect Steven Jacobs integrated sustainable features into the design: from energy and water conservation, to the use of renewable and local materials. During construction, 84% of waste was diverted from landfill and recycled. Additionally, biodiesel was used for most of the onsite construction equipment.
"Sustainability plays a large role at The Edge - from building design to resident lifestyle, demonstrating Douglaston Development's commitment to environmental and social leadership. As a result, Edge home-owners enjoy a higher quality of life than most" said Michael Block, president of Kinetix, the sustainable design and LEED consultant for the project.
Homes at The Edge exceed the New York State Energy Conservation Code by 17% and offer filtered air into every apartment. Other notable features include: insulated walls and tall windows; non VOC-emitting interior finishes; individual lighting and temperature controls; FSC-certified hardwood floors, water efficient fixtures; and open kitchens with high quality EPA Energy Star-rated appliances. A park, waterfront walkway and landing dock were all constructed, vastly improving lifestyle and environment.
With only 25 apartments remaining to sell, prospective buyers cannot afford to wait much longer if they want to call Brooklyn's best residential development home. A limited selection of units are still available and start at $745,000. Offering every amenity imaginable, from the sporty: including an indoor/outdoor pool, golf simulator and basketball court; to the relaxing: including screening rooms, a children's playroom, and an onsite spa; residents never need to leave home.
Soon-to-be-opened retailers Fabbrica, an artisanal Italian restaurant; cycling shop Ride Brooklyn; and gourmet grocer Brooklyn Harvest Market, join recently opened Frolic!, a children's indoor play space; CVS pharmacy; and Red, White & Green Wines and Spirits. The Edge also hosts Smorgasburg and Brooklyn Flea, New York City's most popular free outdoor markets, which are located on the waterfront parcel within The Edge development, between North 6th and North 7th Sts.
The Edge's Sales and Design Center is located on the first floor of the development's North tower at 34 North 7th St.. For more information on The Edge, contact 718-222-0211 or visit the website at www.williamsburgedge.com.
