DMR Architects awarded $8m contract to provide design services

DMR Architects, one of the New York metropolitan area's largest and most respected full-service architectural firms, has been awarded an $8 million contract for design work at several NYC public schools through the New York City School Construction Authority. The firm is currently working on a two-year, $5 million contract with the authority to provide design services for projects at various schools. Scope of services includes development of scope reports, construction documentation and construction administration services for various capital improvement projects. Design and construction phase services for these projects are currently underway under the existing contract. "We are thrilled to be handling so many assignments for the New York City School Construction Authority and to be building on our relationship with them," said DMR project manager Fassil Zewdou. "Our experience has helped us recognize the challenges of renovating buildings and we were able to coordinate our services with numerous subcontractors and to do all of the work around an existing class schedule. We recognized that these buildings serve not only the student population, but the larger community and are in demand nearly every day of the year, for many hours a day." DMR is currently replacing all the windows at P.S. 308 in Brooklyn, the Clara Cardwell School. They also designed extensive repair work for the exterior masonry at the school. P.S. 118 in Queens is undergoing an auditorium upgrade, which includes emergency lighting, electrical upgrades and window replacements. Known as the Lorraine Hansberry School, the building is also undergoing exterior masonry work.
