Columbus Square development opens final tower

December 12, 2011 - Design / Build
The last of five towers that make up the Columbus Square development, 805 Columbus Ave., is now open and available for lease, according to the property's co-developers, The Chetrit Group and Stellar Management. Renters are snapping up studios, and one and two-bedroom units at the 15-story tower which has 63 apartments.
Columbus Square, a collection of five unique rental buildings and over 500,000 s/f of prime retail and community space rising from 97th to 100th Sts. between Columbus Ave. and Amsterdam Ave., is the newest residential community on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
The billion dollar property was designed by world-renowned residential architect Costas Kondylis and SLCE with interiors by Andres Escobar.
805 Columbus Ave. joins the property's other four completed residential towers at 795 Columbus Ave., 808 Columbus Ave., 801 Amsterdam Ave. and 775 Columbus Ave. In all, Columbus Square houses 710 total rental units.
"Columbus Square has re-energized this section of the Upper West Side with a vibrant, modern residential community, and a bustling retail corridor that draws thousands of shoppers daily. It's clear that people want to live, work and shop at Columbus Square," said Jeffrey Davis from Columbus Square Management. "The finishes and attention to detail are uncommon for a rental property; in fact, they're more in line with what you'll find in some of the most sought-after condo buildings in Manhattan. At Columbus Square, the residential and retail components work together to provide a gracious living environment - anything our residents could want and need is within their reach."
Each residence is smartly designed with nine-foot ceilings, piece-laid white oak strip flooring, floor-to-ceiling windows, solar shades and in-unit washer/dryer (for units one-bedroom and larger). Kitchens are finished with eye-catching wenge wood cabinets, Caesar Stone Blizzard slab countertops, a Fisher Paykel refrigerator, Italian porcelain tile flooring and garbage disposal. Select bathrooms feature radiant heat in the floors.
Columbus Square is helping to redefine green living on the Upper West Side, with a focus on sustainability, innovative technologies and healthy lifestyles. Reusable, recycling and green spaces are commonplace at all five residential towers. Nearly 20 million pounds of recycled steel was used in the project's construction and overall, more than four million pounds of construction debris were recycled, representing more than 75% of the total debris generated by the project.
New green elements have also been introduced to the neighborhood in and around the complex including 110 exotic species of plants and trees. Additionally, ten thousand feet of the Columbus Square roof decks have been planted with water-retaining plants that require no irrigation or fertilizer.
Columbus Square has transformed these few blocks of the Upper West Side into a place to meet, socialize and shop at one of the most sought-after shopping destinations in Manhattan. The development offers 500,000 s/f of retail and community space along the property's "Main Street" which has been designed to be foot-traffic and shopping friendly. Retail shops include grocer Whole Foods, Sephora, Petco, Homegoods, Crumbs Bakery, and green dry cleaners Next Cleaners.com.
