BOMA of Gtr. Rochester Building Tour held at CAST Building at RIT

This year's BOMA of Greater Rochester's Building Tour took place at the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) Building at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on May 14. The CAST Building opened in 1999. It houses offices, laboratories and classrooms. In addition to those facilities, the tour included the HV&AC portions of the building. RIT Facilities in General In the academic portion of the campus, there are premier facilities - classroom, laboratory, and research. The university has one of the most sophisticated, high-tech campuses in the nation and they stay ahead of the curve by continually investing in and upgrading their campus' infrastructure. They have taken a leadership role in academic computing, wiring the university to give maximum access to research and information resources. They have two OC3 connections to the Internet, 20,000 network connections, 530 miles of Ethernet cable, and an 8 million ft. fiber-optic backbonet. The Princeton Review has ranked RIT among the most connected campuses in the country. RIT is also one of a select group of universities with access to the Internet 2 research network. The university's 240 buildings contain: * Dozens of "smart" classrooms, computer centers, microcomputer labs, computer graphics and robotics labs. * A microelectronics "clean room," more than 100 color and black and white photography darkrooms and a $7 million web printing press. * Ceramics kilns, glass furnaces, a black smithing area, art galleries and performance auditoriums, a laser optics laboratory, a greenhouse, an animal care facility, a student-run restaurant, and a computer controlled observatory. Breakfast was held at 8 a.m. and the tour was from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. BOMA's next event will be the Red Wings Baseball game on June 17th. The gates open at 12:30 p.m. BOMA will be in the Perch, along the 3rd base side. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Guests are welcomed to attend the event.
