The seminars represent a broadening of BUILDINGSNY content to encompass commercial real estate and will focus on the practical side of key issues confronting the industry today: energy regulation compliance; disaster preparedness and managing safety liabilities and costs. The seminars—which are being offered free of charge—feature the following:
* 10:30 a.m. to noon - "Hurricane Sandy: Lessons Learned:" Featuring video interviews with commercial real estate executives, managers and chiefs on how they prepared for Sandy—which caused $71.4 billion in damage across N.Y. and N.J.—the seminar will analyze the impact on operations in the city and how both management and tenants prepared for the superstorm. The panelists, who comprise the BOMA/NY Hurricane Sandy Task Force and conducted a study on the storm's ramifications, will also focus on response and recovery, challenges experience during the storm and discuss strategies to mitigate the impact of future storms. Moderator: Walter Ulmer, III, president of Remlu, Inc.

*12:30 -2:30 p.m. - "Workplace Safety: Strategies to Better Manage Your Liability and Insurance Cost:" How do you keep your employees, service vendors and contractors safe during maintenance and construction work? What are the insurance implications - positive and negative—of safe work practices? These questions and more on managing costs will be dealt with through a discussion of best practices and procedures ranging from the pre-bid qualification process, contract language, crisis management and public relations, insurance, liability and cost analysis, risk management and the role of social media.
