BOMA/NY to hold Annual Conference and Trade Show in fall

This fall's BOMA/NY Codes & Regulations/ Government Affairs Annual Conference and Trade Show will look and sound different while still delivering the same quality of content that you have come to expect from this annual event. For the first time ever, a mayoral candidate has been invited to keynote the conference - New York City controller William Thompson, who has thrown his hat in the Democratic mayoral ring, is our invited speaker. And he'll be delivering his remarks at a new time - 2 p.m. - so that you can use your day productively and still attend the conference. At approximately 3 p.m. the information sessions will begin and will cover: * Homeland Security's "Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act," or the Safety Act. Through this act the Federal Government provides two levels of liability protection for those creating, developing and deploying antiterrorism technologies. The act covers almost every conceivable technology including products, services, software/intellectual property and any combinations of technologies. We'll field a panel of both legal and security expertise to explain this new legislation, how to use it to the benefit of your operations, and how it will ultimately impact the industry's bottom line. * With a City-mandated deadline for elevator and escalator inspections looming at the end of this year - including a $2,500 penalty fine for each car/track not in compliance - our panel of vertical transportation professionals will walk you through all the steps you will need to take to ensure a smooth inspection process. * Also in development are modules on the latest Local Law 11 requirements and a Best Practices session on how to deal with New York City Department of Buildings violations. The Conference provides opportunities to visit the exhibits before and after programming, and during a break midway through the schedule. It wraps up with a cocktail reception from 5 to 7 p.m. If you are interested in serving as a panelist at the Conference, please contact Sylvester Giustino, Director of Legislative Affairs, at [email protected].
