BOMA/NY monitoring current security situation at New York City buildings

In light of the current state of heightened security vigilance resulting from the May 1 death of Osama bin Laden, the Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater New York, Inc. (BOMA/NY), which represents 400 million s/f of commercial New York real estate (including Ground Zero and other high-profile locations), reports that it is actively monitoring the situation through its preparedness committee/intel subcommittee, and is in close communication with the NYPD, FDNY, Department of Homeland Security and the NYC Office of Emergency Management, where BOMA/NY has a seat in the command center. "New York City commercial buildings adhere to the strictest security standards of any US City, and through their EAPs - which are executed by trained and certified personnel - our buildings are well prepared for emergencies," said BOMA/NY president Edward Fallon, RPA. The EAP and related business continuity/contingency plans address the realities and lessons learned from 9/11 and the Terror Alert of 2004, and are continually updated. Training has been conducted in conjunction with the FDNY and other industry resources. Cross communication with first responders is highly successful, on-going and includes alerts from the NYPD Shield program, the Department of Homeland Security and more. Through its Preparedness Committee and education initiatives, BOMA/NY facilitates training and disseminates security alerts membership-wide.
