Best of Windels Marx discusses three inspirational women

Name: Dalila Best Title: Associate Company Name: Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf, LLP Years in Commercial Real Estate: 8 years Who are three women - living or dead - that you would like to have drinks with and why? I'd have drinks with Eleanor Roosevelt, Michelle Obama and Beyoncé because they've each achieved great professional success while maintaining a staunch commitment to family. I'd hope to learn from the FLOTUS who pioneered the concept of using the position as a platform to impact the country, from a brilliant mind who took the modern position of FLOTUS to new heights of visibility and results (especially for the health and well-being of our youth), and from a woman whose work ethic, drive and creativity have combined to birth a media/entertainment/consumer machine that even Harvard Business School couldn't help but study. What was your first job and what did you learn from it? My first job was as a receptionist in a hair salon. As a young teenager, the exposure to such a diverse population of personalities provided an excellent classroom for learning how to relate to and assist individuals with varying issues, concerns and temperaments. That position also helped me to understand the concept of fringe benefits and that it is not always the dollar amount that makes a task worthwhile, but by looking at the complete package one can truly understand the bottom line. What is your favorite quote? "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." There are many versions of this quote and differing views on the original orator; however, the message is a valuable one. All too often, individuals (including lawyers) are quick to speak on an issue about which they know little to nothing. This quote is a constant reminder that in life (and particularly in one's practice) it is best to check your facts before proffering an opinion or a directive.
